Omar Sharif's Paradise Lost
Casa Lagomar located in Lanzarote, Spain, which has its own unique history. The house was designed by Jesús Soto. Soto was an architect who worked closely with famed local artist César Manrique in the 1970s and was originally built as a private residence for the island's British businessman, Sam Benady.
The house is carved out of the characteristic volcanic rock formations of Lanzarote, which gives it a unique and striking appearance. The design includes a series of interconnected caves and terraces, with each space offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape.
In the early 1980s, the property was bought by actor Omar Sharif, who is said to have fallen in love with the house while filming a movie on the island. It didn't last long though, as he soon lost the house to Sam Benady himself at cards. Although an experienced bridge player himself, Omar Sharif was unaware that the British promoter was the reigning European bridge champion. The property went through several different owners over the years.
Today, Casa Lagomar is open to the public as a museum and cultural center, showcasing the unique architecture and design of César Manrique. The property includes a restaurant, bar, and various event spaces, as well as a pool and gardens. The house has also been featured in several movies and TV shows, further adding to its cultural significance.
